Any glimpse into the life of an animal quickens our own and makes it so much larger and better in every way.

Taking in Animals in Need

They Were Thrown Away Animals Needing Homes

When animals have nowhere else to go and it's possible for me to help them, I do. This means I have quite a menagerie of pets, many of them with health issues or disabilities. They are all worthy of love though!

An Ever Changing Zoo

I have quite a few animals and often end up with more.

Currently I have cats, dogs, a rabbit, ferrets, a hedgehog, guinea pig, rats, hamsters, mice, parakeets, bearded dragons, leopard geckos, mourning geckos, a ball python, a garter snake, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, dubia cockroaches, darkling beetles, tarantulas, isopods, and springtails.

I've had many other types of animals in the past as well and may again in the future.

It's a bit chaotic at times and it certainly is neverending work, but it feels good to be able to give homes to animals in need.

Raising Feeder Insects For My Pets & Yours

Because everyone has to eat, and hopefully they'll eat healthy.

Everybody Eats

One of the hardest parts about keeping various animals is keeping them fed. Especially animals like bearded dragons and other reptiles that need to eat live insects.

We are what we eat and the insects in pet stores often seem to be nutritionally deficient cardboard, then that means we're keeping our pets from being as healthy as possible. And that's when you can find feeder insects, which was especially hard this last year.

After racking up tons of bills feeding my endless pits I decided to try my hand at raising my own insects for feeders. Not only is it cheaper, but I know just what they're eating and can make sure they're healthy.

I did so well raising insects feeders for my own pets that I have enough to share with yours. Check out my For Sale page to see what all is available. I'll probably have more varieties available at a later date and I'm attempting to breed a few other types as well.

You know the person who goes to a party and sits in the corner petting the dog...the neighbor who knows the name of your pets, but not your name...the one who can tell you about rare lizards from New Zealand, but can't tell you which actor is which? Yep, that would be me.

Animals are and have always been the most important thing to me. Whether considered wild or pet, livestock or pest, animals are what it's all about.

There isn't an animal I don't like, even the ones other people are scared of. Often, the weird and creepy are my favorites. And generally most animals like me too (with the exception of rabbits, rabbits always hate me. You'll never convince me that The Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog is not totally a real thing.) Bites and scratches happen, but most animals seem relieved at getting saved (again, with the exception of rabbits!)

I have always had lots of pets. As a child I wanted every pet possible (though my mom put her foot down when I wanted a caiman ;-) Sadly though, this was before I had access to the Internet or even books on animal care and we had no idea how to keep many of the animals. Many of the animals I had for years, but some didn't survive care based on the little the pet stores would tell us.

Now though, things have changed a lot. There is plenty of information out there on most pets and it's a lot easier to know how to take care of them. I research animals I have, animals I want to get, or animals I may have to take in suddenly without warning. Site after site is perused to find the perfect way to keep them healthy and happy and let them live their best lives.

I still remember how it felt not knowing how to care for a pet though, so I understand when I get in pets that weren't in the best of conditions. So many times people feel overwhelmed after getting an animal and want to find it a new home but are afraid of judgements.

I hate seeing abandoned animals, alone and in need. People toss them away with so little care sometimes. I can't take in every animal, but I do what I can. It may not make a huge difference, but it makes a difference for those I can help.

It makes me think of 'The Starfish Story'. The moral of the story is that each starfish saved matters, even if not all of them can be saved (though please, think of it more as a allegory and don't do that to starfish.)

If Only, If Only

Eventually I'd like to live on property again, someplace rural with a couple acres. Nothing special. The house could be a junk heap. I'm mainly interested in acreage and possibly a sturdy barn.

I want space for the animals I have, so they can have a sun porch for nice days and a small green patch for some safe grazing. Many pets really benefit from some outside time when done in a safe and careful manner. The cats especially would love a catio.

Perhaps some raised garden beds to be able to grow vegetables that I'd know were safe. I'd also be able to have livestock once more because I miss my chickens and having a rooster rescue.

But, reality being what it is, it's probably a pipedream. Though that doesn't mean I'm giving up trying.

Any Sales Benefit the Animals

Looking to help animals? There are lots of little things you can do.

  • Watch my YouTube videos about pets.
  • Click on Amazon links here and buy something.
  • Purchase supplies or feeders from the For Sale page.

They all earn me a little bit of money, which goes to help the pets. Maybe they'll get better enclosures or fun treats. Whatever the case, all money earned here goes directly back into the animals' care.

As an Amazon Associate I earn a small commission on sales when you click on my links and go to Amazon. Every little bit helps.
